Das Stadthistorische Museum Mainz ist ein Privatmuseum, das sich durch Mitgliedsbeiträge, Spenden und Eintrittsgelder finanziert. Es befindet sich im Bau D der Mainzer Zitadelle, direkt neben dem 2000 Jahre alten römischen Ehrenmal, dem Drususstein. Träger des Museums ist der Förderverein Stadthistorisches Museum Mainz e.V.
